Overall TT Results for 2022
UKIDA run a series Travellers Trophy (TT) events during the year, the results of which go towards a final TT Series overall result and awards. With a potential of up to 9 events from which scores can be counted, to qualify for the final Overall Result you need to take part in at least 4 of these events. If you partake in more than 4 events then you your best 4 scores count.
In 2022 the overall winners were Deborah Waters (helm) and Barry Peters (crew). With David Lloyd and Jojo Trafford a close second, with Rob Garka and Fi Goegebeur despite loosing the end of the season due to a bad back following up in third on equal points with Matt Exon and Jake Exon.
Congratulations (and thanks) go to Andrew MCleish who attended the most events in the season, completing 8 of the 9 events and Martin Smith and Pippa doing 7.
UKIDA would like as many boats as possible to take part in the TT series and the good news in 2022 was that 101 boats took some part in it. The slightly more disappointing aspect is that of that 101, 74 boats only did 1 event (normally their home club event). 9 boats completed 4 or more events and qualified for the series result, with a further 7 boats nearly getting there with 3 events and 11 doing 2 events.
We have tried many different ways of raising the travelling numbers, both reducing the events and shortening nationals. However reducing the number of events is likely to mean that there is less opportunity to attend 4 events and to qualify overall. If we drop the number of qualifying events to 3 it could easily make it a North v South event and reduce the need to come together and race as a major fleet. So in 2023 we have again gone for a 9 event series (we are still looking for a venue for TT8!) and hope that by including the Nationals / Worlds again as a TT this will help people achieve the magic 4 events.
Take part in a TT open, sailing against travelling boats who are used to racing at what would normally be considered a slightly higher standard and in bigger fleets, is not only fun but also a great source of new knowledge. Generally boats having taken part in a few TT events and then returning to normal club racing will see an improvement in their club results. So please in 2023 support the circuit, support other clubs putting on events and take advantage of the free ‘training’ come and join us on the circuit.
