TT6 – Royal Tay Yacht Club

TT6 and Scottish Dart 18 Championships 12th-13th July 2025

By Bill Carson

LANG MAY YER LUM REEK!

What an extremely successful event, enjoyed from start to finish by a superb entry of 20 Darts! A selection of ‘guest teams’ including our Commodore, joined our growing band of established Darters and a few others who had been coaxed out of hibernation … the vigorous promotion of TT6 had certainly paid off and it was pleasing to view a dinghy park void of Darts!  The Friday evening Barbecue kicked of proceedings, hosted in beautiful sunshine, do the Scot’s require a better excuse for a beer or two?

The Weather Gods did attempt a ‘spanner in the works’ with fog accompanying the arrival of a brisk easterly on the Saturday … this failed to outwit the race team however, 4 excellent races took place! Competition proved fierce, with helms having to remain alert with their mark detection in somewhat restricted visibility!  Grant Mitchell racing solo proved the most vigilant, bagging a commendable 4 race wins … however with the remaining lead positions well shared, it was certainly all still to play for!

A jovial Pizza Frenzy was held on the Saturday evening courtesy of sponsor Domino’s, what an incredible feast, nobody held back … even our flyweights delved in for second helpings!  Many tales of the day were shared (who saw or didn’t see who!) and pleasingly many new friendships were formed!

After a short postponement on the Sunday to allow a pleasant easterly to fill-in, the remaining 2 races were held in beautiful sunshine, for record this is far more typical Broughty Ferry weather!  The spectacular sight as the fleet zig-zagged towards Broughty Castle was clear to view from the busy beach on this day!  Exciting duels ensured positions altered regularly at the sharp-end … Gordon Kohler and Vicky-Lee Mills held on to bag the first race, Iain Graham a super-light solo helm the other!  Grant recorded a 3rd and a 4th to wrap up a TT6 win and secure the Scottish Champion title!  Runner-up Jamie Carson, another solo registered an impressive four 2nd places through the event, it’s still to be established if his Dad Bill in 4th place offered him a lift home!!

The Royal Tay has hosted many memorable events over the years, this one is certainly right up there … without hesitation, we have taken opportunity to self-award ourselves a ten out of ten for effort! A massive thanks go to our team of valued event volunteers, it simply wouldn’t have happened without them!  The Worlds falling in The Netherlands the week after and a clash with the Dart 15 Nationals at Bridlington, unfortunately led to no visitors from south of the border this time round … this didn’t deter ‘the Jocks’ who rallied to lay on a classic TT, the smiling faces at the prize-giving were certainly testimony to this!
